Russian President Vladimir Putin met his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in Sochi, Monday evening.
Syria is gradually approaching the final and inevitable defeat of terrorists, Putin told Assad .
He added that “the most important question is of course the issue of a peaceful political settlement of the situation in Syria after the defeat of terrorists.”
Putin also pointed out that “the political process must be certainly carried out under the control of the United Nations.”
According to the Syrian president, in two years the successes achieved by Russian and Syrian armies have been evident and many residents of the country were able to return to their homes. “Great successes were achieved, both on the battlefield and politically,” he said.
Assad conveyed to the Russian leader “the congratulations and gratitude of Syrian people for being able to defend the territorial integrity of the country and its independence.”
