US plane crash and two soldiers killed

A US Apache helicopter crashed early Saturday morning in California, killing two soldiers, a US military spokesman said.

Lieutenant Colonel Jason Brown, a spokesman for the military, said in a statement obtained by Reuters that an investigation was underway into the cause of the crash at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, southern California.

Another army spokesman said the pilot and his aide were killed but did not name them, explaining that their families had not been informed yet.

The soldier and crew base were in Fort Carson, Colorado, and the plane was in a routine training exercise at the base in the Mojave Desert,
