France Issues a Statement on its Vision of a Political Solution in Yemen

France on Monday welcomed the appointment of a new envoy to Yemen, stressing that it would give the necessary support to him as part of the priority of a political solution.

“Mr. Martin Griffith was appointed as the new Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen on 14 February 2018.

We extend our best wishes for success and express our support for him in accomplishing his mission,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement stressed that France’s priority in Yemen is “to address the humanitarian crisis and to reach a political solution”.

Added that “there is no way to preserve the territorial integrity of Yemen and restore peace and stability and put an end to tragic humanitarian conditions only through political settlement.”
