The war-torn country of Yemen called on the European Union on Saturday to set up an independent international commission and investigate all the crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition, as well as to issue a Security Council resolution that includes an initiative to achieve peace in Yemen, end the ongoing war, lift the siege and resume the peaceful political process.
The above message was mentioned in two letters from the Yemeni Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta, the current President of the European Union George Vela and to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mujerini.
According to the official Yemeni news agency (SABA), the foreign minister called on the European Union to contribute and compel to stop the war and lift the unjust siege on Yemen, which is now entering its third year.
He also called for the opening of Sana’a airport for international, commercial and civil traffic, and to compel the ousted Yemeni president, Hadi, and his allies to implement the mechanism agreed upon and pay the salaries of state employees in the northern and southern governorates.
Sharaf also stressed on the importance of the flow of goods and humanitarian aid through the port of Hodeidah, which must be rapidly reactivated. He also asked for the reactivity of the European Union Mission in the capital Sana’a.
Moreover, the Foreign Minister called on the European Union to condemn the ongoing violations of international humanitarian and human rights law perpetrated by Saudi Arabia and its allies, reviewing the humanitarian consequences of the war and siege.
