Over 500 Families Displaced by Cyclone Mikono in Socotra: UN

Over 500 families were displaced by Tropical Cyclone Mekunu that hit Socotra island, United Nations organization announced on Monday.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sana’a said that around five hundred and seven families had been displaced to safe areas in Hadibou and Qalansia.

Most of the affected families took schools as a shelter while others are staying in governmental facilities, the OCHA said.

At least seven people killed and eight others missing due to the powerful storm, according to the OCHA’s office.

The office added that the relief organizations are planning to send emergency aid by air from Aden, using a WFP cargo plane on Tuesday.
