Press sources revealed the reason behind the visit of former US national security adviser Frances Townsend accompanied by a Saudi delegation to the city of Marib in eastern Yemen on Sunday, which will meet with the chancellor during her visit a number of political and military leaders ,loyal to the “Saudi-led coalition.”, backed by the US.
The visit comes a few days after the conclusion of a round of negotiations between the delegations of Sanaa and Riyadh negotiators in Sweden last week, which ended up with an agreement under the auspices of the United Nations on Hodeidah and the exchange of prisoners from both sides.
The sources pointed out that the US national security adviser will discuss with officials of “legitimacy” ,politicians loyal to the coalition and the government loyal to Riyadh issues related to peace in Yemen and the next stage, which will witness political and military developments to end the war.
According to the sources, the American adviser, in addition to her meeting with the governor of Marib Sultan al-Arada and a number of local authority officials in the province, will also meet with representatives of all political parties loyal to the coalition and a number of military leaders and Yemeni sheikhs in support of the coalition in the Saudi capital Riyadh to discuss the future of the next stage in Yemen.
The media quoted the pro-legitimacy and coalition that the US adviser arrived on the board of a Saudi military transport plane and was accompanied by a Saudi military delegation led by coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki.
According to local observers, It seems that the American intervention in the war on Yemen is not limited to the military side only, but may develop to try to draw the features of the next stage and to ensure the survival of Yemeni political and military figures loyal to the coalition in the next authority to ensure the continuation of the interests of the United States of America in Yemen which exceed the internationally recognized and permissible interests to intervene in internal affairs and to control their foreign and regional policies.
In March 2015, the US -backed –Saudi-led coalition started a war against Yemen with the declared aim of crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who had taken over from the staunch Riyadh ally and fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, while also seeking to secure the Saudi border with its southern neighbor. Three years and over 60,000 dead and injured Yemeni people and prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country, the war has yielded little to that effect.
Despite the coalition claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
More than 2,200 others have died of cholera, and the crisis has triggered what the United Nations has described as the world’s worst humanitarian disaster.
However, Saudi Arabia relies heavily on the US in its brutal war on Yemen. Washington has deployed a commando force on the Arab kingdom’s border with Yemen to help destroy arms belonging to Yemen’s popular Houthi Ansarullah movement. Washington has also provided logistical support and aerial refueling.
