Will Hodeidah Port Reopen for Commercial Goods?

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Hussein Abdullah Maqbouli discussed private arrangements to reopen Hodeidah port for commercial goods.

During his meeting with officials of Chamber of Commerce and Maritime, Maqbouli stressed the importance of cooperation the government and private sector to return of the route of commercial ships through the port.

The minister affirmed that the port should be opened in front of commercial goods and containers in according to Sweden’s agreement led by the United Nations.

Maqbouli stressed the reopening of Hodeidah port would alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, which is the main artery to various provinces and the largest Yemeni ports.

UNHRC data indicates that at least 8 million of the nation’s 28 million people require emergency food assistance immediately, while humanitarian workers in the nation have identified areas in which people are eating leaves to survive, as an estimated 2.3 million people in the country have been driven from their homes and are now refugees.

An estimated 85,000 children under five may have starved to death in Yemen since 2015, Save the Children said .

Almost half of Yemen’s children are chronically malnourished, which can stunt their growth, World Health Organisation reported.
