Saudi soldiers have been killed in operations by the Yemeni army forces on military positions south of the kingdom as the United States Army says it is still providing support for the war, which Saudi Arabia and its allies are launching against Yemen since 2015.
At least nine Saudi soldiers were killed in renewed wave of fire from Yemeni army forces on military positions south of the kingdom in Feburary 6.
Saudi authorities said in a statement late on Saturday that the soldiers had been killed in battles with the Houthis in the southern border regions, while the Saudi military also published images of a funeral of one of the soldiers in the al-Ahsa region.
A Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that Yemeni soldiers and their allies targeted the Saudi forces in the Madafin area of the kingdom’s southern border region of Jizan, situated 966 kilometers south of the capital Riyadh, on February 11 ,killing at least eight Saudi troopers.
Late in last year, the latest figures take to 467 the number of Saudi soldiers, who have been killed in skirmishes with Yemeni army forces within the first nine months of the year. A total of 293 Saudi soldiers have sustained injuries as well.
In May 2018,more than 1,000 Saudi troops have reportedly been killed since early 2015, when the Riyadh regime and a coalition of its allies unleashed a bloody war against Yemen.
The death toll was registered after more than a dozen Saudi forces were killed during recent cross-border operations against Yemen, Al Jazeera reported , citing Saudi state media outlets.
This is a rare admission of the Saudi military casualties. The kingdom has a policy of withholding information on the casualties it has suffered during the war.
Israel’s leading daily Haaretz, revealing that Israeli officers are training foreign mercenaries, led by the Colombians and Nepalese, in UAE-funded camps situated in Negev Desert.
In a report, Haaretz cited London-based Al-Khaleej Online as saying that the mercenaries have been recruited by Mohammed Dahlan, security adviser to Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to sources in a US House Intelligence Committee.
On Sunday, The US continues to “provide support to the coalition,” Major General David C. Hill, deputy commander of US Army Central, told AFP on the sidelines of a military exhibition in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi .
A number of the governorates in Yemen ,yesterday, held mass rallies, responding to a call by Sayyed Abdulmalik, to denounce the normalization with the Zionist entity and to reaffirm their steadfast and permanent position on the Palestinian issue. Sana’a witnessed the largest with two rallies for men and women. Hodeidah, Dhamar, Amran, Al-Mahweet and Hajjah also witnessed large masses.
In March 2015, the US -backed –Saudi-led coalition started a war against Yemen with the declared aim of crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who had taken over from the staunch Riyadh ally and fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, while also seeking to secure the Saudi border with its southern neighbor. Three years and over 600,000 dead and injured Yemeni people and prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country, the war has yielded little to that effect.
Despite the coalition claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.
However, Saudi Arabia relies heavily on the US in its brutal war on Yemen. Washington has deployed a commando force on the Arab kingdom’s border with Yemen to help destroy arms belonging to Yemen’s popular Houthi Ansarullah movement. Washington has also provided logistical support and aerial refueling.
