Member of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi on Sunday called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to condemn crimes and violations committed against prisoners in prisons of Saudi-led coalition mercenaries.
During his meeting in Sanaa with Director of Operations at ICRC headquarter in Geneva Dominik Stillhart, who is currently visiting Yemen, al-Houthi demanded that the Committee should have a great role in protecting the prisoners from torture, slaughter and murder and addressing their issue.
Al-Houthi pointed out that “the countries that attack Yemen on the pretext of law enforcement are who kill the Yemeni people and commit crimes against the prisoners.”
He indicated to the brutal treatment received by the prisoners of the army and the popular committees in prisons of the coalition mercenaries and their military leaders who do not hesitate to commit crimes violating the law and kill prisoners.
The absence of ICRC explicit position condemning these violations had encouraged the perpetrators to commit further violations, he added.
Al-Houthi also called on ICRC to release not to Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council on cases of prisoners executions after investigating them.
In the meeting, the Supreme Political Council’s member also welcomed the ICRC’s request to train some officers of the Yemeni armed forces on the principles of international humanitarian law.
For his part, Stillhart pointed to the ICRC’s humanitarian roles relating to the file of prisoners, especially as it is related to Sweden Agreement, wishing that the prisoner file be closed quickly because of its humanitarian effects on the prisoners and their families.
