Over the past 52 months, Yemen has been transformed into biological weapons testing ground. Mortality and morbidity rates have increased due to the blockade imposed by the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen and the humanitarian situation has become extremely tragic.
The official spokesman of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Youssef Al-Hadhari, revealed on Wednesday the horrendous outcome of the siege imposed by the countries of aggression on Yemen, dealt with by international organizations only by issuing statements warning of the disastrous health conditions experienced by Yemen.
According to YPA, Dr. Al-Hadhari said in a statement, “52 months of siege and war on Yemen has changed the features of health stability at all levels.”
Al-Hadhari discussed the medical and treatment sides as well as the chronic diseases, all of which have been completely collapsed. He pointed to the destruction of the large health facilities, reaching five hundred facilities completely destroyed and 50% of the health facilities that are out of work.
Al-Hadhari said that more than 128 high-priced drugs are not in the drug market and 28 types do not reach patients, especially chronic diseases, need a quick transfer which is impossible due to the closure of Sana’a airport.
He explained that 48 thousand employees of the health work cadres as doctors, nurses, managers and pharmacists have not received their salaries for 36 months because of the transfer of the Central Bank to Aden, which impacts on job performance due to their interruption of work.
“Epidemics have also emerged, such as cholera, diphtheria and measles, where the number of cholera suspicion cases reached a million and 600 thousand with 3 thousand and 7 hundred deaths since 2017 to date.”
The Health Ministry spokesman said more than 2 million and 200 children under the age of five were affected by malnutrition, of whom 400,000 were malnourished and needed urgent treatment, as well as one million and 200,000 malnourished pregnant women.
The World Health Organization has said in many reports that a Yemeni child dies every ten minutes due to siege and malnutrition.
Al-Hadhari stressed the high number of deaths of patients who have not been able to travel since the closure of Sana’a Airport, more than 30 thousand people, in addition to 200 thousand need to travel urgently, including kidney failure patients.
“Many reports of international organizations have illustrated the magnitude of the tragedy in Yemen as a result of the siege and war.”
Al-Hadhari pointed out that the number of martyrs of the aerial bombing of the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen is more than 40,000 martyrs, those who reached the health centers and were monitored, besides thousands who were buried without re-registration, mostly women and children.
Al-Hadhari said that the biological weapons used in bombing Yemen have raised the number of people infected with tumors to 200% and doubled the incidence of congenital malformations fold. The dangers of these weapons remain in the future as they are mixed with soil and air and there are many effects caused by the siege of the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen.
