The Yemeni Center for Human Rights called on the United Nations on Wednesday to take its role seriously in protecting civilians in general and displaced persons in particular.

The Center said in a statement that, “the preservation of the lives of civilians is the responsibility of all parties and protected by international conventions and international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, which affirmed the protection of the rights of displaced persons, and that has not been done by the United Nations since the start of the aggression on Yemen.”

On the other hand, the Center condemned in its statement the massacre that took place in Mawza’a district, where the Saudi-led coalition targeted the homes of three displaced families.

The crime took the lives of at least 22, and this war crime is not the first of its kind nor will it be the last amid the international silence toward the Yemeni crisis.

The Center stressed in its statement that the massacres perpetrated by the coalition against the Yemeni people constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, customs and religions and are considered clear war crimes.

Moreover, it called on human rights organizations around the world to document the crimes of the coalition and to prosecute them in international courts for them to receive their fair punishment and stop the Yemeni bloodshed.
